Criminal

No area of law takes as much wisdom, experience, and firmness than representing someone who has been accused of a crime. Our team has many years of experience caring for people in a range of situations. We will assure you all the protections provided by the law and a just, appropriate solution when you face a criminal charge.

ELM lawyers who practice criminal law:

Representative matters:

  • A client involved in a divorce and custody fight was accused of inappropriate touching of his young daughter. He strongly denied the charges. We stood by him every step of the way in a very painful process. We fought a permanent protection order sought by Child Protective Services in civil court, contested CPS' decision to file a dependency action in juvenile court, and provided results of our independent investigation to law enforcement authorities. Our efforts convinced us and the Prosecutor that the client was telling the truth, and the Prosecutor decided not to file any criminal charges. The juvenile court allowed visitation to resume, and the protection order was dropped. Our client believes that, but for our vigorous handling of his case, he would never have seen his daughter again.

  • A client faced deportation by the Immigration Court for aggravated felony and inadmissibility charges based on a prior conviction many years earlier. After serving his time, he turned his life around, regained the trust and love of his family, and earned the respect of his community by counseling pastors in over 60 churches. He also started five self-sustaining churches serving disadvantaged populations. Our firm helped the client obtain a rare full and unconditional pardon from the Governor, with favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion. With the pardon, we then successfully persuaded the Immigration Court to dismiss the removal proceedings.
