Joel M. Alexander
Originally from Chatham, Illinois, a small town near Abraham Lincoln’s hometown of Springfield, Joel brings a global perspective to his legal practice. He attended Pepperdine Caruso School of Law and has traveled to nearly 40 countries, including completing an eight-month motorcycle journey from the southernmost town in South America to Malibu, California.
While in law school, Joel gained significant international legal experience, clerking for the Honorable Faustin Ntezilyayo, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Rwanda, and working with Rwanda’s premier legal institute on legal scholarship and competition law initiatives. He also represented indigent clients imprisoned in Uganda and Malawi on charges ranging from misdemeanors to serious felony and capital offenses.
Joel’s experience further includes an internship with the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., where he supported homicide prosecutions and briefed complex constitutional issues. At Pepperdine, he participated in both the Religious Liberty Clinic, representing religious institutions in federal litigation and contributing to Supreme Court amicus briefing, and the Startup Law Clinic, advising emerging businesses on formation and governance matters.
In addition to his legal work, Joel served as Vice Chairman of the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law and as Vice President of Pepperdine’s Federalist Society chapter. After serving as a Summer Associate with Ellis, Li & McKinstry during law school, he returned to the firm to continue serving clients throughout Washington State.
